American Journalist Gunned Down In Ukraine

Brent Renaud, an award-winning American journalist, was killed in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Renaud, who is aged 50, was gunned down outside Kyiv on Sunday, said to Regional Police Chief Andriy Nebytov.

“US citizen Brent Renaud paid with his life for trying to highlight the aggressor’s ingenuity, cruelty, and ruthlessness”, Nebytov wrote.

The deceased was in a car with an injured photographer, Juan Arredondo, and a Ukrainian driver.

The Colombian photojournalist, who is still getting treatment, described how they were attacked whilst traversing the first bridge at Irpin.

He explained that they were planning to film more migrants fleeing the area when they were given a ride in a vehicle.

“As we crossed the checkpoint, they started shooting at us. The driver turned around, but they kept shooting. My friend Brent Renaud was shot in the neck”, Arredondo said.

Renaud collaborated on a documentary about the worldwide refugee crisis in Ukraine with Time Studios.

On his death, Time Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal and Time President Ian Orefice released a joint statement.

“Our hearts are with all of Brent’s loved ones. It is essential that journalists are able to safely cover this ongoing invasion and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine”, they said.
