Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule popularly called Okey Bakassi (born in October 23, 1969) is a Nigerian stand-up comedian and actor.

In 2014, he won the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo) category at the 2014 edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards for his role in the film Onye Ozi. He is also known for being one of Africa’s most popular stand-up comedians, as well as one of Nigeria’s top comedian.

He is also one of the member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints.

Onyegbule was born in Owerri and raised by his grandmother from age three after his mother died during childbirth and has four siblings, two brothers and two sisters.

His father later remarried and had more children with his new wife; Okey is their first child together.

Career and Achievements

Okey Bakassi always wanted to entertain even though the River State University of Science & Technology at which he studied did not have a Theatre Arts department.

In Bakassi’s own words, a eulogy is not a speech about how great the loved one was, but rather a time for family and friends to reflect on their relationship with the deceased.

Originally a school graduate of Lagos State University, he had a meeting with renowned movie producer and director Zeb Ejiro in 1993. And so, he starred as one of Nick’s bodyguards on the show Fortunes with fellow stars Ramsey Nouah and Yinka Davies.
