Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has disclosed that he supports Liverpool in the English Premier League.
Kanu, who is on trial for treason, revealed the information during his court appearance on Wednesday.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja asked Kanu whose football team he likes when speaking with him.
“What is your team?” Justice Nyako asked.
Reacting, Kanu who stood up in the dock said: “My team is Liverpool even from the age of seven”.
Kanu’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, protested to the Department of State Services (DSS) that he and other lawyers had not been given adequate time to speak with the IPOB leader, according to Naija02.
The court said that she had previously ordered the DSS to provide Kanu with modest treatment and care while in custody, including food, clothes, and medical care.
Then Justice Nyako went to Kanu and remarked that despite her orders to change his attire, the IPOB leader continued to wear the same milk-colored luxury garments.
Despite Kanu’s habit of wearing the same clothing in court, the judge claims she has seen him in the media wearing different outfits.
The judge then joked that she was a Liverpool F.C. supporter and asked Ozekhome whether he was a football lover as well, to which the lawyer replied yes.
Nyako then questioned Kanu whether, based on the designer’s clothing he wears to court, he was a Chelsea Football Club supporter.
The judge then instructed the SSS legal director present in court to always enable Mr Kanu to see his favorite football club’s matches.
“You must allow the defendant to watch the matches any day they are playing,” she said, adding that she was going to make an order to that effect.
