Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State and a presidential candidate, is said to have secretly gotten the nomination form for the Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial primary.
Mohammed is able to run for reelection in 2023 after serving as the state’s governor for a term.
Following his presidential ambitions, there has been conjecture over who would succeed him.
According to reports, the state’s Secretary of Government, Ibrahim Kashim, agreed to function as a stand-in for the governor.
Kashim discreetly resigned and secured a PDP gubernatorial candidacy form, according to Premium Times, and plans to run in the party’s primary.
If he loses in his presidential quest, he will, however, stand aside for Mohammed.
According to a source close to Mohammed, he discreetly acquired the gubernatorial candidacy form and was checked and cleared to run in the primary.
While response to the accusation, Mohammed’s presidential campaign spokeswoman, Udenta Udenta, dismissed Mohammed’s approval to compete for governor primary as a rumour.
He said,
“I don’t comment on mere rumours. What I know is that he had been screened to contest for the presidency and he has joined a long list of other candidates.”
