A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the Ebonyi State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, David Umahi and His Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe to vacate their Positions following their Defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on the 17th of November, 2020.

It will be recalled that Umahi, a Second-term Governor won the 2015 and 2019 Gubernatorial Elections in Ebonyi State under the PDP platform dumped party for the APC about Seventeen Months ago after the Governor accused the PDP of planning to zone it’s 2023 Presidential Ticket to the North.

The Court further restrained the duo from parading themselves as Governor and Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State.

According to Justice Inyang Ekwo, Umahi and His Deputy, Igwe was sacked because the 393,042 Votes they secured during the 2019 General Elections belongs to their former pary, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and not the All Progressives Congress (APC). Thus, it cannot be legally transferred to the APC.

The Court further ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh Election in the State and receive the names of those that ‘ll replace Umahi and Igwe from the PDP.
