Governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform have denounced the country’s current fuel shortages and the national grid’s constant failure.

The governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for torturing Nigerians amid the gasoline shortage and national grid outage.

The governors condemned the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as careless and indifferent to the condition of Nigerians in a statement published following their meeting in Umuobiakwa, Abia State.

The PDP leaders urged Nigerians to reject the APC owing to its lousy administration and inefficiency, according to a communiqué delivered by Aminu Tambuwal, chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

The governors declared that the PDP is prepared to take over from the APC in 2023 and provide quality leadership alternatives to help the country recover, while criticizing the high cost of goods.

“We condemn the awful agony and misery affecting Nigerians in nearly every facet of life was far better in 2015 under the PDP than it is now under the APC,” the statement adds.

“Diesel which is critical for the running of SMEs was N131.47 in 2015, it now costs above N700; fuel: official and black-market was N87/155 in 2015, it now costs N167/350.

“Aviation fuel/air ticket rate on domestic flights was N110 per litre/N18,000 in 2015, it now hovers around N700 per litre/N70,000, where available. Indeed, the scarcity of fuel that has resulted in the loss of several man-hours is a disgrace to Nigeria.

“The collapse of the national grid (126 times in 7 years – (June 2015 to March 2022) and its consequences for non-availability of power is most unfortunate.

“Kerosene (NHK) used by the ordinary Nigerian for cooking and power was N180 in 2015, it now sells at N450; the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) – 12.5kg Cylinder sold for N2,400 in 2015, is now sold at between N8,750 and N10, 000.

“Prices of basic foodstuffs are now three times higher than what they used to be in 2015.

Staple foods such as rice, beans, cassava flakes are now slipping out of the hands of average Nigerians. Indeed, a bag of rice sold for N8500 in 2015 is now N39,000.”

The governors also promised to fight any future attempts by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to blame other levels of government for bogus subsidy claims.

The governors argue that the NNPC’s assertions that it paid nearly N1 trillion in fuel subsidies in a year are incorrect and unfounded.

They also accused the President for the NNPC’s income leaks, and demanded that he quit as Minister of Petroleum Resources.
