Osun 2022: Former Deputy Speaker, Lasun Yusuff Dumps APC
Mr. Lasun Yusuf, a former Deputy Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, said on Friday that he would be leaving the All Progressives Congress.
Yusuf ran for governor in the governing party’s gubernatorial primary in 2018, but was defeated by the current governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, in the election.
In his bid to become governor of Osun State, the former deputy speaker competed in the state’s primary election in 2022, finishing third behind Moshood Adeoti, the nominee of the state’s Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
The incumbent governor of the state, Oyetola, won the gubernatorial primary of the governing party by a considerable majority over the other candidates, according to the results of the primary.
Yusuf handed his resignation letter to the APC Secretariat, which is located in Ogo Oluwo Osogbo, on Friday.
In a statement released at the time of publication, Yusuf has not announced whether or not he will run for governor of the state.
He has not said which political party he intends to join after leaving the dominant party in the country.
