NBA Blasts Umahi For Referring To The Judge Deciding His Case As An Hatchet Man

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has denounced the governor of Ebonyi State for making disparaging remarks against Justice Inyang Ekwo following his unfavorable court ruling.

This comes after Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi termed Justice Inyang Ekwo’s dismissal as “a hatchet” man’s job on Tuesday.

In response to the remarks, the NBA termed Umahi’s remark “a national embarrassment.”

Umahi’s response to Ekwo’s court ruling was “totally unacceptable,” according to a statement issued by NBA president Olumide Akpata on Wednesday.

The PDP filed a lawsuit in December 2020, alleging Umahi’s desertion from the PDP to the APC, which had won the 2015 and 2019 elections on its ticket.

The Umahi’s defection, according to the party, was unlawful and illegitimate.

The jury sided with the lawsuit and instructed Umahi to resign, prompting the governor to respond quickly.

Umahi had pledged to alert the National Judicial Council concerning him.

He said that Ekwo had roughly ten cases against Ebonyi in his file, but he failed to inform the public that matters are allocated to judges entirely by the Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho.

Umahi could have challenged the ruling instead of criticizing a sitting judge, according to Akpata.

He urged Umahi to make an immediate public apology to Nigerians in order to salvage his reputation.
