EFCC Releases Obiano After Spending Six Days In Custody
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has freed Willie Obiano, the former Governor of Anambra State.
According to the Daily Trust, an anti-graft officer verified the news, adding that the “anti-graft agency took his passport as part of his release terms.”
Obiano was apprehended by commission agents at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The previous governor was detained only hours after turning over power to Charles Soludo, the state’s new governor.
Obiano was said to be arranging a trip to the United States of America before being apprehended.
Obiano was then transported to the EFCC’s headquarters, where he was interrogated for days on allegations of mishandling of N42 billion and inflated contracts.
On Monday, the former governor was granted bail, but he failed to comply with the release conditions.
Obiano, on the other hand, was freed on Wednesday evening after fulfilling his bail terms.
