Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has claimed that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State’s seat has been secured and that he would not be able to return as Chairperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) (APC).
El-Rufai stated this while on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday evening.
He went on to say that the same is true for the CECPC Secretary, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe.
It will be remembered that the APC’s leadership crisis took a fresh turn on Monday when Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello took over the CECPC and appointed himself acting chairman.
Buni was claimed to have flown out of the country due to medical reasons, but Bello assured reporters that he has President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval and backing to take over the party’s leadership.
Buni’s fate has remained unknown as to whether he will return to his seat or be kicked out
Buni, on the other hand, can only resume as Yobe State Governor, not as the APC Caretaker Chairman, according to Governor El- Rufai’s on Wednesday.
Bello, he claimed, has the support of President Buhari and 19 governors.
President Buhari’s decision, which he made soon prior to his medical vacation to London on Sunday, freed both Buni and Akpanudoedehe of their roles, according to the Kaduna State Governor.
He Said:
Buni is gone, the secretary is gone. Gov. Bello is in charge and he has the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari and 19 governors. Buni can only return as governor of Yobe but never as chairman of our party.
“President Buhari ordered his removal and this has been implemented. Governor Bello has taken over and things are moving according to plan. Party will be restored, convention will take place as scheduled. 19 governors and their deputies are solidly behind this move. Buni and his people got a court order to stop the convention but hid it.”
