David Adele popularly known as Davido is a Nigerian performer, recording producer, composer, and record artist-producer who was born in the United States.
David Adeleke initially gained notoriety in 2011 with the release of his track “Dami Duro,” which was well-received across Nigeria. He has a long list of successful songs under his belt, making him a global performer with appearances all over the world.
With his older brother Adewale Adeleke, he co-owns HKN Music (a record company that includes Sina Rambo, B. Red, and DeeKay). Since then, hes worked with musicians like Naeto C, Skales, Tiwa Savage, and Sauce Kid, among others. In April 2012, he secured an endorsement agreement with MTN Nigeria, and on October 23, 2013, he teamed with Guinness Nigeria for the “Guinness World of More” event.
The musician received his schooling at the British International School in Lagos. Prior to moving to Nigeria, he studied Business Administration at Oakwood University. During his stay at Oakwood University, he developed an interest in music. He purchased musical instruments and began producing beats as well as capturing vocal samples. He dropped out of Oakwood University after receiving bad marks and moved to London, where he concentrated his efforts on singing rather than producing.
When he returned to Nigeria in 2011, his singing career was put on hold when he agreed to enroll at Babcock University to honor his father. After his father financed the university to build a music department for an initial class of one, the artist received a music degree from Babcock in July 2015.
In 2012, he published his first album, Omo Baba Olowo, which was accompanied by the singles “Back When” with “Dami Duro Naeto C,” “All of You,” “Overseas” with Sina Rambo, “Ekuro,” “Gbon Gbon,” and “Feel Alright” with Ice Prince. He released the singles “Gobe,” “One of a Kind,” “Skelewu,” “Aye,” “Tchelete (Goodlife),” “Naughty,” “Owo Ni Koko,” “The Sound,” and “The Money” between 2013 and 2015. According to reports, the aforementioned tracks were supposed to be singles from the album The Baddest.
The singer revealed on Twitter in January 2016 that he had secured a record deal with Sony Music. His declaration drew varied reactions, prompting the record company to issue a statement confirming the transaction. The artist launched his own company, Davido Music Worldwide, a few months after signing with Sony (DMW). The label is presently home to Dremo and Mayorkun. He got a new record deal with Sonys RCA Records in July 2016.
