Airline Operators In Nigeria Suspend Its Planned Strike Action

Passengers and other stakeholders who would have been inconvenienced by the planned strike action may now breathe a sigh of relief, as airline operators in Nigeria have decided to postpone their scheduled service withdrawal.

The suspension was announced on Sunday by Abdulmunaf Sarina, the Managing Director of Azman Air and the President of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).

The union said that their planned strike was put on hold after the government agreed to intervene, as well as their own assessment of the effect on the general public and the economy.

The government will be engaged further, according to the statement.

Shehu Wada, Executive Director of Max Air; Obiora Okonkwo, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines; Roy Ilegbodu, Chief Executive Officer of Arik Air; Abdullahi Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer of Aero Contractors; and Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace – signed the statement as well.

As previously reported by Naija News, airline operators have threatened to cancel flights starting Monday, May 9th, due to the unacceptably high cost of aviation fuel and its detrimental effect on their operations.

However, after constructive talks with the federal government, the operators have decided to call off their scheduled strike.
