2023: Top APC Chieftain, Murtala Garo Set To Join NNPP

Murtala Sule Garo, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, is apparently planning to defect to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to Naija News, Garo, the state’s former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has been approved as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.

Garo is considering leaving the APC after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje met and reunited with Senator Barau Jibrin, one of his political enemies in the state, according to the Daily Trust.

According to the publication, the former commissioner is enraged because the governor reached an agreement with Barau, who has been attempting to seize leadership of the party from their side.

According to reports, the governor and Barau paid a visit to Garo at his home around midnight on Wednesday to resolve their differences and persuade him to drop the ticket and the party.

According to a source close to Garo, the newly appointed deputy governor intends to meet with his allies and make a firm decision on ditching the APC.

According to the source, Garo is also concerned about a wave of defections in Kano’s governing party, which many fear would have an impact on the party’s chances in 2023.

The former commissioner is said to be contemplating joining the NNPP, which has attracted a slew of disgruntled APC figures in the state, including former governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

Garo’s in-law, NNPP national leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was essential in establishing him as a strong politician in the state.

In 2007, Kwankwaso pulled him into mainstream Kano politics as the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDPOrganising )’s Secretary.
