2023: Ganduje Selects Preferred Successor

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has chosen and anointed Nasir Gawuna as his preferred successor in 2023.

Gawuna was chosen as Ganduje’s successor at a meeting of APC stakeholders in the state, according to Naija02 sources.

Murtala Sule Garo, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, is expected to be Gawuna’s running mate in the 2023 governorship election, according to reports.

Governor Ganduje presided over the stakeholders meeting, which was attended by state party leaders, according to the Daily Trust.

According to the newspaper, the former commissioner initially opposed Ganuwa’s appointment as Ganduje’s successor before accepting the stakeholder’s decision.

It was reported that it took the intervention of state party elders and leaders to persuade Garo to resign in favor of Gawuna.

The former commissioner is thought to be in charge of the local government’s political party structure.

The governor’s wife, Hafsat Ganduje, is said to favor Garo.
