2 Weeks After Evacuation From Ukraine, Nigerian Final Year Student Dies In Sokoto

Uzaifa Halilu Modachi, a Nigerian student who was evacuated from Ukraine during Russia’s invasion, died two weeks after returning to the nation.

According to reports, the deceased was in his third year of study in Ukraine at the time Russian soldiers invaded the nation.

Habibu Haliru Modachi, a legislator in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, claimed his son had been in Ukraine for three years and had not been home for vacation.

When the conflict between Ukraine and Russia broke out, the Soko Sokoto State Government organized for the evacuation of its students via the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine.

Uzaifa, a member of the evacuated pupils, died two weeks after coming home.

“Alhamdu Lilah, God gives and takes away life, and that’s how he meant it to happen, there’s no question about it,” the father stated in response to the tragedy.

“Had it been he died in Ukraine so many things would be said about him, that he was either killed by the Russian bombardment or had an accident or even accidentally shot and killed by the Ukrainian Army.

“We are grateful to God for having him die before us, we also thank the Nigerian government particularly Sokoto state for taking a hasty decision to evacuate them before the full escalation of the War in Ukraine”.

Uzaifa was preparing for his final year exams at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University in Ukraine, which would have qualified him as a medical doctor, when he died.

He was buried in Sokoto after his death.
